+ Leadership
“Data is a form of evidence, and this evidence can change how we think about our world.
But just like in a courtroom, evidence never changes anything by itself.
To change our minds, data needs a protagonist to cultivate, curate, and translate it to evidence, to present it in a meaningful way, all within a complex social context.”
Experience
Data Science Lead
Canva
I have led the data team for ‘Discovery Experiences’ Group – a large (>40) cross functional team, including ‘Magic Design’ - part of the new AI driven design tools. We supported analytics, event design, reporting and measurement.
Senior Manager, Data Analytics
CBA - Digital (Commbank App & Netbank)
I led a team of Analysts supporting the Digital Platforms, finance and strategy with data science expertise, including the CommBank App and Netbank. I was responsible for Research, Insights & Deep Dives, A/B Experimentation, Modelling and Forecasting, and understanding customer behaviour using digital data.
Senior Data Scientist
Copyright Agency
Copyright Agency reports to the Attorney General, and manages Copyright licensing for text and images in Australia. I led the data analytics team supporting finance, license negotiation and administration, facilitating negotiation of $100M contracts annually via in-depth data analysis, process automation and reporting.
Technical Expertise
Education
PhD Statistics and Bioinformatics
Macquarie University
Thesis: Template-based modelling of Protein Structure
I looked at variation in the shape of the molecules encoded by genes (i.e. proteins) , decomposing structural variation into shifts and rotations of their building blocks, using four dimensional complex numbers (quaternions). I then created an approach to simulate structural variation from the multidimensional distribution of shifts and rotations (a hypersphere). See my thesis and other publications
Masters of Applied Statistics
Macquarie University
Covering expertise in statistical theory, probability theory, experimentation and hypothesis testing, generalised linear models, time series, statistical bioinformatics, survival analysis, data visualisation, spatial modelling, and statistical programming.
B. Env. Sc. (Hons I)
University of Sydney
Generating a broad understanding and skills needed to apply scientific thinking to create solutions to complex multidisciplinary problems.
